What is the deadline to apply?

Applications must be submitted online by December 2, 2022.

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Earned a C or higher in all core academic subjects throughout the first semester of the school eighth-grade year.
  • Qualified to earn a standard high school diploma.
  • Maintained a satisfactory attendance record.
  • Have had no serious discipline infractions or repeated infractions during the 8th grade

how are student selected?

Current 8th grade students meeting the WFHS admission requirements whose applications are received during the application window (October 17-December 2, 2023) will be eligible applicants. 

From this group of eligible applicants, the ECSD Office of Enrollment Services (formerly School Choice) will conduct a lottery selection in January 2023. 

Students selected in this lottery will be notified.

Students who do not meet the WFHS admission requiements and those students not selected for admission by the lottery process will be notified by email (at the email address provided in the online application) by January 13, 2023.

How do the bus routes work?

Some "TRUNK ROUTES' are available and provided by the school district, but transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. 

Buses pick up WFHS students at selected schools throughout the county and bring them to campus.  Additional information regarding buses can be found on the Transportation link on the website for the Escambia County Public Schools:  Transportation or by telephone at (850) 469-5591.  Many students' carpool and/or drive after they obtain their driver's license.


How many students are selected for the 9th grade class?

Approximately 400 students are selected based on district guidelines.  A percentage of eligible students will be accepted from each of the high school attendance zones.  The Escambia County Office of Enrollment Services (School Choice) will use a lottery system to determine which eligible students are accepted to attend West Floirda High School (WFHS).

When will a student be notified if they do not meet the admission requirements?

Students that do not meet the eligibility requirements will be notified by an email sent from the ESCD Office of Enrollment Services on  January 13, 2023.

No paper applications will be available or accepted.  Applications must be submitted online at

When will a student be notified if they have been selected?

Letters will be emailed February 10, 2023. 

Only one notification will be sent informing the parent/guardian of the student's designated school and career program for the coming year.

Is WFHS Accredited?

West Florida High School is fully accredited by Cognia.
